When Philip Brunelle won Chorus America’s gala auction bid for a new composition, I was grateful and excited to write a piece in his honor.

In response to Mr. Brunelle's request, I incorporated the hymn, "Heap High the Farmers Wintry Hoard." This choral work serves as a tribute to the longstanding tradition of celebrating Thanksgiving at the Plymouth Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where Mr. Brunelle leads his choir.

To capture diverse perspectives and inspire a global outlook, I sought the insights of several young people from the Young People’s Chorus of New York City. Through their lyric contributions, a collective sentiment emerged, reminding us of the enduring struggles faced by many around the world.

It is my belief that by fostering connections and a sense of community, we can collectively bring about positive change and make a difference. And we can never forget to be thankful for the people, places and beauty that surround us.

    Performance Time: 3:45 min

  • Heap high the farmer’s wintry hoard!

    Heap high the golden corn!

    Let us live together

    And stay forever

And be thankful for what we have

    Let us love together

    stay close forever

And be thankful for what we have

    Let’s get together

    And be grateful

And thank God for what we have

As we gather 'round the table

    And give thanks for everyone

    It is the time

    It is the hope

    Your promises

    Don’t let them go

    Sing with me in harmony

    And the change the world

    Let’s remember our choices

And think back on what we’ve learned

Let’s make noises raises our voices

It’s our time to change the world

    And we share

    And we Care

    And we Love

    It is the time

    It is the hope

    Our promises

    Don’t let them go

    Sing with me in harmony

    And the change the world
